Artist’s Statement:

My art shows the unification of people separated by social differences and class. This union acts as a structural foundation for not only us as individuals, but also our collective place among our neighbors and our culture.

Therefore, the art represents how an individual perceives his, or her, role and function within their culture. Metaphorically I see this social order as running parallel with that of a technological one, and consequently attempt to incorporate industry into the subject matter as well. It becomes relevant that within our culture every person makes up part of a team and serves a crucial function in our progression, just as in technology a simple mechanical device plays a similar role in the foundation of a complex machine. Regardless of social status and economy, each class, or machined component, needs the other in a symbiotic existence.

With this in mind I try to make each medium count as being symbolic to the classes of our society, manipulating them to illustrate the overall objective of the work. Most media choices include blue, and white, collar uniforms, time cards, business cards, bee and casting wax, and axle grease with an industrial constructive approach to object making. One example of manipulation is the lamination of time cards to creates nuts, bolts, and gears. This process, although a long one, is an enjoyable necessity that absorbs me back into the life of the worker that I am originally from.
